Who Made It ?
-Harris Brisbane Dick Fund
How was it made ?
-This tile once formed part of a mihrab, or niche, facing Mecca, toward which prayer is directed in mosques.
What is it ?
-It is an ancient tile from a Mihrab. It is an essential part of a Mosque. The inscription at its top includes a Qur'anic reference to the mihrab's function, and provides the date of the tile's manufacture in the fourteenth century.
When was it made ?
-A.H. 722/ A.D. 1322–23
What materials were use ?
-Stone paste
This piece of art really caught my attention due to it's magnificent designs and beautiful colors. I myself am not muslim but have been to a Mosque and have seen this type of art several times. In my global history class as well have noticed many similar designs which are painted onto walls all over the Mosques. I really like how the blue color complements the gold color designs in the inside.
